Interior design for new build bach
This cleverly architecturally designed hillside second home for a retired couple from Christchurch presented a blank canvas for all interior design aspects.
Michael and Helen were very open to creating a vibrant, family-friendly home with some fun design surprises.
The palette is beachside, light, and soft for all seasons to be enjoyed for large family stays.
This multipurpose space is anchored by the continuous use of NZ Panels ply timber, leading seamlessly to a central storage unit. Oak flooring and Resene Half Rice Cake create a warm, neutral backdrop for the living area, styled with two Kovacs chairs, a custom squab, and Weave cushions.
Helen’s wall-hung plate rack inspired the functional design of this light and airy kitchen. Panelled joinery, a stone benchtop, and splashback tiles from Emerald Tile add texture…
… softly linking to the feature hallway wall in Resene Quarter Dusted Blue.
Michael wanted to create a feature wall that would discreetly hide the doors to the mudroom/bathroom, and stairwell, which has sparked curiosity from many visitors.
The stairwell is carpeted in repurposed Axminster carpet from the original bach, while the mudroom floor features pink stone tiles from Metro Floors.
The main bedroom ensuite features marble finger tiles from Metro Floors and a custom vanity in NZ Panels thermoform, Kube. A large skylight floods the space with natural light, complemented by feature lights from Accent Lighting.
