Full interior design for extension-renovation
Incorporating a contemporary addition seamlessly into the original architecture of this 1930’s bungalow was crucial to this extensive renovation. The project involved full interior design of the kitchen, living room, fireplace, and office, as well as the main bedroom suite (ensuite, wardrobe, and bedhead). Careful and complimentary material selection ensures all spaces are beautiful, highly functional, and flawlessly blend into the original home.
“We engaged John for the kitchen design of our home renovation and were well rewarded for doing so. John has great vision and attention to detail. He was very easy to work with and went the extra mile to get things exactly right. He brought a sense of calm to a project that we would otherwise have been overwhelmed by, and he was certainly fun to work with. He also worked well with all who were involved in our project - architect, builder…
We would absolutely recommend John, and would not consider using anyone else if we were to undertake another renovation or building project.”
Paint-lacquered joinery, a stainless steel benchtop, and bespoke basalt tiles set the tone for this richly layered, moody kitchen. The island is clad in engineered stone with timber veneer seating, softly lit by feature pendants from Accent Lighting.
The basalt-tiled fireplace adds definition and anchors the connection between the kitchen and the living spaces. Its depth of tone is balanced perfectly by NZ Panels oak veneer panelling and oak flooring, bringing softness and warmth throughout. Buddy tapware, a studio favourite, adds a refined touch.
John designed the knife block, custom-made in solid white oak and stained to match, adding both function and quiet elegance within the joinery. Joinery handles from Archant.
